man tail

Using tail -f will show the last entry in a file, and show as the file changes.
This is a good way to view log files for activity.
tail -f /path/to/file

Using tail -# will show the last # of lines of a file.
In this example, tail will show the last 100 lines.
tail -100 /path/to/file

If you use a +, it will show the first # of lines of a file.
In this example, tail will show the first 100 lines.
tail +100 /path/to/file

This example will take the last 100 lines of a file and create
a new file, named file, containing those 100 lines.
tail -f 100 > file
